Sakharov was enrolled in a special group in 1948 and to until 1968 he had worked in the development of thermonuclear weapons. He participated in the design and development of the first Soviet hydrogen bomb under the scheme, called "puff Sakharov".

In childhood Andrei did not like to learn math and even stopped going to the mathematical section. He was is a strong mathematician, but the common style wasn't suitable for him. Often he solved the task, but could not explain its decision. Sakharov had amazing intuition, he could foresee what can happen. In atomic physics there was no strict equations, mathematics didn't help, therefore intuition was very important.
