     After the death of John Lyons, John O'Brien, Steve Jenkin, Chris Maltby and Greg Rose, former students of Lyons, began raising funds to create a department for his name in University of New South Wales: Department of Operating Systems named after John Lyons.  With the support of many university graduates, computer firms, Usenix, Linux Australia, the department was established in 2006,  becoming the first department of the University of New South Wales, funded by contributions of graduates. In 2009, Gernot Heiser (Gernot Heiser) took up the post of the first line professor.

 Robert Marco Tomasulo (born October 31, 1934 - April 3, 2008) is a computer scientist, the creator of the Tomasulo algorithm. "For the ingenious algorithm, made possible the creation of processors of extraordinary performance" in 1997, Tomasulo received the Eckert-Mockley Award.

Robert Tomasulo studied at the Regis High School in New York. He graduated from Manhattan College, and then received an engineering degree from Syracuse University. In 1956, he joined IBM Research. After nearly a decade of gaining significant experience in various technical and managerial positions, he moved on to developing mainframes, including the IBM System / 360 Model 91 and their successors. After completing a 25-year career at IBM, Robert worked in the Storage Technology Corporation  hatchery project to develop the first mainframe system based on CMOS; became a co-founder of NetFrame - a start-up in the mid-80s, worked on the creation of one of the first server systems based on microprocessors; and worked as a consultant on architecture and microarchitecture of the processor at Amdahl Consulting. January 30, 2008 Tomasulo spoke at the University of Michigan College of Engineering with a story about his career and the history of developing an extraordinary performance
