I’d like to present [prI'zent] a project “The Influence of Geography on National Symbols”. I have chosen this topic because I find it interesting. I have always wanted to know what the symbols mean. In my project I am going to show how geographical features of Canada and the Commonwealth of Australia influence their national symbols.

These are symbols of Canada. These are symbols of Canada. Have a look at the Canadian flag! It is made up of a red maple leaf on the white background and two red stripes. What do they symbolize?

The tree of a sugar maple – one of the highest trees in the world (up to 40 m high) – grows only in the south-east of Canada. Mixed woods occupy one third of Canada’s territory. The white colour reminds [rI'maIndz] of the arctic snow in the north of the country. The maple leaf reminds of its forests.

Trees have played a meaningful role in the historical development of Canada and continue to be of commercial, environmental and aesthetic importance to all Canadians. Geographical position Canada is situated between the two oceans and the red stripes on the flag symbolize the Atlantic and the Pacific Oceans.
