Born on 27 November 1918 in the city of Kyiv in the family of the famous scientist Eugene Oskarovich Paton (1870-1953), later the founder and director of the Institute of Electric and Natalia Paton ( 1885 - 1971 ), a housewife. In 1941 he graduated from the Kyiv Polytechnic Institute engineer-electrician; defended his PhD thesis on "Analysis of work of welding heads and assets under s POWER welding pod flux" ( 1945 ) doctoral dissertation - "Study of conditions rack burning Welding arc and regulation ee" ( 1952 ). Member of the CPSU since 1952.

He worked as chief editor of "automatic welding" , "Tehnychal diagnostics and nondestructive control", "Modern эlektrometallurhyya" , "Journal of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine" . 1992 - 1995 - Chairman of the State Prize of Ukraine in Science and Technology. In the period 1992 - 1994 and from August 1997 to February 2005 year - a member of the National Security Ukraine . April-October 1992 year - a member of the Board on Science and Technology Policy of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine .

Author of more than 1000 publications [6], in particular 20 monographs; More than 400 inventions.
